How Is An imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 Different From The Canon Series Plotter?

By enabling the creation of perfect copies, printing revolutionized our world where all manner of documents are concerned. In the past century, numerous innovations have increased the projects, inks, and scope of materials that can be handled by printers. There are highly specialized printing devices, a wide format of printers, and everything in between (the imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 is one such product).

An imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 Different From The Canon Series Plotter

To meet the precise needs of numerous industries, printing technology has evolved. Thanks to that evolution, wide format plotters came out. Today, they are not quite so ubiquitous, though once a very common device in industries requiring precision. Every now and then, however, they are still used.

In some industries today, the wide format plotter still plays an important role.

Uses for Plotters

A purely functional existence is held by plotter printers. Rather than aesthetics, they tend to emphasize clarity and accuracy of detail. For this reason, this type of technology was most readily adopted by industries which construct or design things. This included the following:

  • Product engineering
  • Interior design
  • Electronics engineering
  • Construction
  • Architecture

Historically, plotters were also used by some craftsmen such as pattern makers and map makers. But today, technology in printing has excelled and surpassed plotters, in many cases. The same type of accuracy can be delivered by modern printers without issues usually presented by plotters.

Format Printers Take the Spotlight

Though advantages were possessed by plotters, their retirement was forced by their disadvantages. Format printers took over because of the following plotter disadvantages:

  • Pen plotters couldn’t fill solid areas, do different line shades, or do gradients due to the coordinate system.
  • The slowness of plotters doomed their fate.
  • In one single session, all the drawing had to be complete. The plotter had to start over if the pen ran out of ink.

Wide Format Printers Are the Future

To many types of today’s firms, one quintessential element is the wide format printer. They make an impressive add-on to current printing fleets because they are both capable of and reliable for a vast array of print jobs. In industries that must create hyper-accurate blueprints, these format printers have all but taken over.

What’s more, technology never stops evolving. As this occurs, wide format printers will continue to deliver functionality and increased value to companies who choose to take advantage of them.

Introducing the PROGRAF PRO-4000

The imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 is designed to offer color consistency and high image quality in a large-format printer. Thanks to its high-speed image processing, ink set, and integrated compact printhead, users can achieve a balance between speed and exceptional print quality.

Today, there are other wide format printer models within the Canon Series, e.g., the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-2000. While both the PRO-4000 and PRO-2000 feature an all-new ink formulation and Chroma Optimizer, these printers do have several differences. For example, imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 printers have a max printable width of 44 inches while imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 has a printable width of up to 24 inches.

When it comes to selecting wide format printers, you also have to take note of the Operating System you are currently using. The PRO-4000 supports Windows® Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, and Mac OS X 10.7.5 through 10.11 while PRO-2100 printers are not compatible with Vista, but support Windows® 7, 8.1, 10, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016 and 2019, as well as Mac OS 10.11.6 and 10.12 through 10.15.

Thanks to Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-4000’s pigment-based LUCIA PRO ink, prints typically have excellent UV resistance and can withstand approximately two years of outdoor life without experiencing fading. The dye-based inks of Canon iPF670 printers, however, may cause prints to fade if they are exposed daily to direct sunlight. Therefore, the latter is recommended for printing indoor posters and signages.

Only Canon provides the innovations and technologies as a foundation for a solution in ultra-high-def photography. Now you can deliver prints that capture the emotion and the precise moment of the original image. To find out more about the PROGRAF PRO-4000, click here.
